Fourth Grade Music Week Three
Week 3 - Melody
Melody is basically a series of music notes that sounds good to our ears - think the part of a song that you sing or hum! When we add a melody on top of rhythm (from last week!), we start to hear a piece of music. We have lots of notes (pitches) in music, but we have a set of "main" notes:
Do, re, mi, fa, so, la, and ti. These strange "words" are called solfege. If we keep going, we just keep going with the pattern as the pitches go up: do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do, re, mi... and so on!
Watch the video below. Listen to how the notes get higher as she goes through the solfege.
Now it's your turn! Go to Chrome Music Lab Links to an external site. and experiment with the lab. Do you see the connection between the solfege and the boxes in the lab (hint: red is Do). Add some rhythm and see what song you come up with!
Take the entire week to make up some music - something you really like - then see if you can sing with it using the solfege! Write your solfege down on page 5 if your music journal!
